Problems are never-ending; stress is mounting over your head. Every day the obligations, challenges, and work mount up. Everyone wants everything right now! Your boss, your demanding kids, wife, husband, sister, brother, friend, and mother-in-law. And all the information, new technologies, Facebook, Instagram, and smartphones don’t seem to help either. If anything, they seem to speed up your life. You are used and abused, therefore already feeling the signs of too much stress.

It takes courage to recognize you cannot cope, and you’re suffering, but it’s the first step to beating stress. And the solution to every problem starts with taking that first step. The trouble is, most people cannot see it.

You are often the last person to recognize that you have a problem. If you were to ask your friends and family, they would tell you. But they won’t tell you unless you ask.

Recognizing the signs of stress

How do you know if it’s the stress that makes you suffer? What are the symptoms to look for to confirm the diagnosis?

There are three different types of symptoms, physical, emotional, and mental. What are the signs of being overstressed?

Physical symptoms of stress

You may experience any combination of these symptoms. As everyone is different, you may react in different ways.

How to relieve stress

Recognizing and admitting your problems, if only to yourself, is an important start. The next stage is to discover what you can do about it. And it doesn’t necessarily mean medication or pills.

You may not realize it, but there are many natural ways of relieving and managing the stress that is much kinder to you and your health.

Don’t drink alcohol

You may have a glass of wine or a can of beer after dinner, but don’t drink more than that. Alcohol may temporarily ease your stress, but since alcohol is a depressant, you’ll only feel worse in the long run. And if you thought your boss was hard to handle before, imagine what he’ll be like when you have a hangover.

Exercise Regularly

If you’ve had a long hard day, a treadmill or an aerobics class is probably the last thing you want to face. Before you retreat to your couch, however, remember that exercise is a great way to blow off steam if you’ve had a tough day. Exercise also releases serotonin in your brain that increases your sense of well-being.

Have time for leisure

Are you an angler who hasn’t made a trip to the river in ages? A pet owner who hardly ever has time for your pet? Whatever you love to do, whether it’s cooking, playing with your model train, playing baseball, or taking a long walk on a beautiful day. Do your best to make time for your passion. Take some time to enjoy a wellness weekend, savor a delicious meal, or appreciate the feel of your cat’s furry head under your fingers. Participating in activities you love is part of what makes life worth living.

Remember about good things.

It’s human nature to remember the negatives at the expense of the positives. For instance, you can probably recite almost verbatim the last criticism your boss gave you. But do you remember the last compliment? When you’re feeling stressed, you can go back in time and recall all the wonderful things you lived through.

You owe it to yourself to discover what’s best for you. Maybe, get a new job or profession, or get out of your relationships. Also, you may take up some hobby or sport. Also, there are natural remedies for relieving stress symptoms, and some of them give you a good night’s sleep as well.
