It came to light that the chemicals liable for making you mentally fitter were the pigments in the skin of the blueberries.


The anthocyanin that gives ripe berries their beautiful colors is the substance that has such strong antioxidant power. Antioxidants help repair some of the damage that happens to our body cells every day.

Scientists have learned that the darker the berry, the more health benefits it has! Eating two-thirds of a cup of blueberries will give you as much anti-oxidant protection as five servings of apples.

The dark pigments in these berries grant protection against cardiovascular diseases, degenerative eye disease such as cataracts and may provide some help in preventing some cancers, and bladder infections.

Brain protection

Also, these dark berries may give protection to brain cells from the degenerative diseases of aging.

You get the protection of antioxidant whether you eat your berries fresh, frozen, or dried.

You can eat them freshly picked, add them to your favorite cereals, or make a smoothie with various fruits, milk, and yogurt. Get creative and find ways to combine berries into your favorite recipes.

In North America, blueberries are available freshly picked or frozen all year round. If you can’t get them freshly picked, dried ones also have concentrated levels of the valuable antioxidants.

Dark red fruits

If you live in an area where blueberries are not readily accessible, buy other fruits and berry varieties that have very dark red or dark purple colors.

Fruits such as red grapes, pomegranates, bilberries, cherries, black raspberries, strawberries, and plums also have high levels of these beneficial dark pigments. These fruits offer virtues similar to blueberries.
